Certification Rules

Welcome to the official certification rules page. We want you to be successful, so please ensure that you read and understand ALL of the rules, prior to your certification attempt. If anything seems unclear, use our Contact page to ask for clarification. All rules must be strictly followed in order for a bend to be certified.

BENDING RULES FOR HALL OF FAME/ELITE LISTS:

  1. Only Unbraced Bending techniques (Double Overhand, Double Underhand, or Reverse Bend) may be used. No Braced Bending allowed.

  2. At no point can the bar, bolt, or bender's arms come in contact with the body below the waist.

  3. Block/Powdered chalk is the only substance allowed to be added to the hands or wraps during the attempt.

  4. Bar certifications (ex. Moose, Goose) and the Amarok Bolt must be completed using only ONE (1) pair of Bend Sport Canada leather wraps and ONE (1) rubber band per wrap.

  5. Ogopogo and Nanook certifications may be completed in up to two (2) pairs of any leather or Cordura/Nylon wraps, secured with a maximum of ONE (1) elastic band per wrap.

  6. Crush pads are not allowed for any certifcation attempts (Bolts or Bars).

  7. All certification steel must be purchased directly from Bend Sport Canada.

  8. The bender may not have any added supportive material from their fingertips to their elbows (eg. no wrist wraps, bandages, finger tape, etc.).

  9. The attempt must be either witnessed by a Bend Sport Canada official, or filmed and submitted in accordance with the VIDEO SUBMISSION RULES below.

  10. The attempt must be completed within the specified time limit, with the time starting at the first actual pressured attempt, and stopping when the last pressure or "hit" is finished.
    • Bar certifications (ex. Moose, Goose) must be completed within ONE (1) minute.
    • Ogopogo and Bolt certifications (ex. Nanook, Amarok) must be completed within FIVE (5) minutes.
    • A bend is considered complete when there are TWO (2) inches or less between the INSIDE edges of each end of the material. For Bolts, the edge of the head counts as an inside edge.

VIDEO SUBMISSION RULES:

  1. Video must be recorded in a well lit area.

  2. The following THREE (3) measurements must be displayed on camera, before the attempt is begun:
    • The length of the material
    • The diameter of the material using a calliper (digital preferred). A measuring tape can be used to measure this but the video must clearly show the width of the material. If the judges cannot see it clearly the attempt will be considered no good.
    • The head stamp of a bolt, or the paper tag of a bar

  3. The wraps being used must be shown to the camera, prior to being wrapped, proving that they are the proper wraps and that they are a flexible material.

  4. Once the measurements and wraps have been shown, both must remain in camera and visible until the attempt is completed. IF THE MATERIAL IS MASKED, LEAVES THE CAMERA, OR IS OBSCURED FROM VIEW AT ANY TIME, IT WILL BE A FAILED ATTEMPT.

  5. Once the bend is complete KEEP THE MATERIAL IN FRAME! It must be measured and shown to be within the 2 inch standard, as described in the BENDING RULES above. This measurment can be shown with a Bend Sport Canada Measuring card, measuring tape, or calliper.

  6. Once you are satisfied with your attempt, send the video or video link to [email protected]
